Family Caregiver Story Project

Mary's Story

I am a 73 year old female caring for my 74 year old husband who has been suffering with Parkinson's Disease for the past seven and one half years. I also take care of my sixteen year old grandson.

I receive no financial help, but I do get help from my two daughters whenever they can spare the time to come in and sit with him or prepare a meal. Sometimes I get assistance with doctor visits. My grandson also helps by sitting with him or by helping me to get him up on his feet again after a fall. He falls quite often.

1. Financial help with tons of incontinent supplies

2. Financial help with the cost of day care 2x weekly

3. Assistance with bathing

4. To attend church 2x monthly

5. Leisure time, just for me once a week

6. Doctors home visits
